TaylorMade Qi4D Drivers: Which Model Is Right for You?

The TaylorMade Qi4D lineup — Max, standard, LS, and Max Lite — covers every swing speed and player type in one generation. All four share the same 4D face technology and carbon construction. The difference is spin profile, weight system, shaft weight, and who each model is actually built for.

Most golfers will land on the Max or the standard Qi4D. But the LS and Max Lite fill specific performance gaps that no other model in the lineup addresses. Here is how all four compare.

What Changed from the Qi10

4D Face Technology

The Qi4D's face is optimised in four dimensions — thickness varies both horizontally and vertically across a wider area than the Qi10's Twist Face. The result is more consistent ball speed on off-center hits, particularly on low strikes.

Updated IG2 Aerodynamics

The Inertia Generator sole has been refined for the Qi4D to improve clubhead speed through impact without adding weight. The aerodynamic shaping is more aggressive than the Qi10, contributing to slightly faster swing speeds at equivalent effort.

Expanded Lineup

The Qi10 did not have a Max Lite. TaylorMade added it to the Qi4D lineup specifically to address slower swing speeds — a player segment that was underserved by the Qi10 generation. It is also $100 cheaper than the rest of the lineup.

Common Questions

What is the difference between the Qi4D and Qi4D Max?

The Qi4D Max is built purely for maximum forgiveness — highest MOI, high launch, optimised for mid-to-high handicappers across all swing speeds. The standard Qi4D is slightly less forgiving but adds a 2-position weight system for draw/fade bias, an 8° loft option, and a more workable feel for better players. If forgiveness is your only priority, the Max. If you want fitting flexibility, the standard Qi4D.

Who should play the Qi4D LS?

Golfers with driver swing speeds consistently above 100 mph who are generating too much spin. Excessive spin robs carry distance and makes the ball flight unpredictable in wind. The LS's lower CG and 16g moveable weight let a fitter dial in a low-spin, penetrating flight. It is not the right choice below 95 mph — you will lose carry height and total distance.

Is the Qi4D Max Lite only for seniors?

The Max Lite is built for any golfer with a swing speed under 85 mph — that includes seniors, women, and juniors building their game. Age is not the variable; swing speed is. If you're consistently below 85 mph, the lighter build promotes a faster swing without requiring technique changes, which is the most reliable path to more distance for slower swingers.

How does the Qi4D compare to the Qi10?

The Qi4D improves on the Qi10 with updated 4D face technology for more consistent off-center ball speed, refined IG2 aerodynamics, and an expanded lineup that includes the Max Lite. For most golfers the Qi4D Max and standard Qi4D represent a meaningful upgrade over their Qi10 counterparts, particularly on low-face strikes where the 4D face geometry shows the biggest improvement.

What loft should I choose for the Qi4D?

Most golfers under 95 mph should start at 10.5°. Faster swingers above 100 mph often get better distance from 9°. The 12° option (available on Max and Max Lite) is specifically for slower swingers who need extra help getting the ball airborne. If you have access to a launch monitor, optimize for 12–15° launch angle and 2,000–2,500 rpm spin rate regardless of which model you choose.
